Class XII : Physics
Chapter: Electric Current
Reader Friendly Format
Pre-requisites

In this chapter we will be studying the basic properties of electric currents. To understand the behaviour of currents in electric circuits, we will learn the properties of conductors and how they depend on temperature. We will be learning why a short, thick and cold copper wire is a better conductor than a long, thin and hot steel wire. We will study how current and energy are transferred in a circuit.
In this analysis we will use the concepts of current, potential difference, resistance and electromotive force.
You have learnt about them in the last chapter. Let us revise them, as we will be using them throughout this chapter.
  1. We have heard the term 'electric current' used so many times.Electric current in terms of charge flow.  (Explanation)
  2. The type of instruments needed to measure current and potential difference in electric circuits. (Explanation)
  3. Ohm's law gives a relation between current through a material and the potential difference applied across its ends. (Explanation)
  4. Good and bad conductors of electricity. (Explanation)
  5. Definition of electric power. The relation between kWh and joule. (Explanation)
  6. Definition and unit of electrostatic potential. (Explanation)

Pre-test

A pre-test allows you to be sure you have a clear understanding of the concepts given above. Your score in this test is an indicator of your familiarity with the pre-requisites. We suggest you go through the pre-requisites again in case you do not score high in this test. And remember, you can take this test only once (unless specified otherwise). The evaluation for this test will be available in your performance tracker.
