Class XII : Biology
Chapter: Photosynthesis
Reader Friendly Format
Pre-requisites

All of us know that factories are powered by coal and cars by petrol. But what is the power that runs life? What gives the energy for life on earth to survive? You must have learnt in lower classes that the primary source of energy is the sun. This energy is utilised by plants to make food. Plants may thus be viewed as the collectors of solar energy. But do you know how plants prepare food? It is quite clear that they do not do it in the sense your mother cooks food in the kitchen, isn't it? What are the things used by her? You can think of a long list such as vegetables, cooking gas, cooking utensils, and so on. What are the things that aid a plant in preparing food? And, what is the process of food preparation called? Let us learn more about these things in the chapter photosynthesis.
  1. What is photosynthesis? (Explanation)
  2. Structure of a leaf. (Explanation)
  3. The nature of light. (Explanation)
  4. Autotrophic and heterotrophic nutrition. (Explanation)
  5. Pigments are coloured substances that absorb light. (Explanation)
